The Community Brief

The Community Brief | February 24, 2026

PETE'S PERSPECTIVE
It’s been a great learning experience as your mayor these last six plus weeks. And now, we are getting into the nitty-gritty of policy updates that are important to our future! There are several important items to discuss in the coming month. Here’s what you need to know.

Parking Plan
Last week, I assessed the city’s current parking plan by walking the full downtown core with our Community Service Officers (CSOs) to determine enforcement and inventory needs. It was what can only be described as a blustery morning! Thanks to CSOs Wes and Sara for input derived from their many years of service on the ground! It was very helpful in developing the new plan, which was presented during the February 19 City Council meeting. (Click here to watch the meeting online.) The new plan leverages most of what’s already working while adding more all-day parking spaces. Time limits are slated to be removed from parking spaces in the middle of 1st Avenue, between 4th and 5th Street. And (pending Ketchum Urban Renewal Agency board approval), all 1st and Washington Lot spaces will become all-day parking.

Stop Sign Assessment
Last week, the City Council and I also reviewed data and proposed changes to stop sign placements throughout town. The proposal aims to reduce the number of stop signs, create a clearer pattern for drivers, and improve traffic flow and safety. (Click here to view the proposal.) The city will be presenting the plan to the public in March for feedback, and a revised plan will come back before the City Council in the spring for potential adoption.

Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Construction South of Town
ITD’s work on the Trail Creek Bridge has begun for the year, and we’re working with them and Idaho Power to provide updates on the timeframe and scope of construction. Details will be coming soon! We’ve asked them to come speak at an upcoming Council meeting and work with staff on additional public communications.

Blaine County Housing Authority (BCHA) Contract
Finally, we will be discussing the current BCHA contract and potential changes at this week’s City Council meeting.

There’s a lot going on! Don’t forget to provide public comments on these or any other items at participate@ketchumidaho.org. Your input matters! And as always, I’m available by phone (208.727.5087) or email (pprekeges@ketchumidaho.org) to address your questions or comments.

Thank you for staying engaged,

Mayor Pete
