Digging in the Street

Bonds 

  • A yearly bond of $5,000 must be posted with the city prior to the issuance of this permit. Any costs to the city related to the restoration of the street or ally due to settlement shall be paid for by the contractor or forfeit his bond.
  • Any cut performed on an existing paved street or alley (i.e. asphalt) shall be saw cut or forfeit their bond.
  • The contractor shall be responsible for any settling for a period of two years. The contractor shall be required to repair within five days after notice or forfeit his bond.

Specifications 

  • Adequate traffic control shall be provided around the work site and the contractor assumes all responsibility.
  • Backfill, for the top 30 inch minimum, shall be of controlled density fill (slurry) as per specifications.
  • No trench shall remain open more than 24 hours, and shall be barricaded to prevent any accident.
  • The contractor shall arrange for paving of the street cut on all paved streets and alleys on a timely basis. If the city does the paving, a pavement fee shall be assessed based upon the length of the street cut.
  • When using a backhoe on pavement, outriggers must be padded.
