Seasonal Wildland Engine Boss NWCG-ENGB

The Ketchum Fire District is accepting applications for a Temporary Seasonal Engine Boss. This opportunity is open to all individuals who are qualified as and possess a current NWCG-ENGB certification.

The position of Temporary Seasonal Engine Boss requires responding to, combating, extinguishing, and preventing wildland fires both nationally and locally, as well as performing wildland risk reduction assessments on homes and properties in Blaine County, Idaho.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Engine Boss will be expected to respond to, control, and extinguish wildland fires under emergency conditions
  • The Engine Boss will be required to maintain availability for wildland assignments throughout the season, with the potential to be deployed to any state in the agencies Type 3 Wildland/Urban interface engine with a variety of crew configurations. 
  • The Engine Boss may be assigned in or out of District, to State, and Federal fires. Assignments may range from 14-21 days and multiple assignments throughout the season should be anticipated. Regardless of fire conditions, employees will work a minimum of a 40-hour week and will be expected to work extensive overtime while on assignment or as needed.
  •  While not on an assignment the Engine Boss will be required to learn and participate in a variety of roles as part of an all-hazard response agency. The Engine Boss will be required to perform in emergency situations, which may require strenuous exertion in difficult terrain and inclement weather.
  • The job requires individuals to participate in the department’s wildland training programs, complete wildland risk reduction training, learn streets, trails, fire roads, and water supply resources in the district, and operate fire/rescue apparatus under emergency situations in adverse weather and conditions.    
  • The Engine Boss will also maintain equipment, supplies, and apparatus.
