Ketchum Police Increase Intersection Patrols To Enhance Pedestrian Safety
New educational and enforcement initiative begin this February to protect Ketchum’s community on the move.
Ketchum police are increasing patrols at intersections throughout town starting in early February to improve safety and educate the public on traffic, pedestrian, and cycling rules at intersections. This ongoing initiative throughout the year aims to reduce vehicle and pedestrian/cyclist incidents by ensuring everyone follows the rules of the road. Officers and city staff will be specifically monitoring for inattentive behavior from both drivers and pedestrians/cyclists.
Key areas of focus for education and enforcement include:
- drivers failing to yield to pedestrians and cyclists;
- pedestrians not using marked crosswalks(jaywalking);failure to follow traffic control signs; and
- general inattentiveness that can lead to accidents.
While the primary goal is education, officers will issue citations where necessary to ensure compliance and safety. All citizens are encouraged to stay alert, put away distractions, and look out for one another while navigating the Ketchum core and surrounding areas.
If you have any questions regarding this initiative, please reach out to the city at participate@ketchumidaho.org
