City Transitions to .gov Domain to Strengthen Security, Trust, and Digital Services
Beginning July 28, 2026, the City of Ketchum will officially transition its website and employee email addresses to the ketchumidaho.gov domain, reinforcing cybersecurity, strengthening public trust, and making it easier for residents, businesses, and visitors to identify official City information and services.
The City's official website will move from ketchumidaho.org to ketchumidaho.gov, joining a growing number of local governments nationwide adopting the .gov domain as the trusted standard for public-sector websites. Reserved exclusively for verified U.S. government entities, the .gov domain provides enhanced protections against phishing, spoofing, and other cyber threats while assuring the public they are accessing official government information.
"Providing secure, accessible, and trusted digital services is an important part of serving our community," said Mayor Pete Prekeges. "Transitioning to a .gov domain strengthens the security of our online services while giving residents confidence that they're visiting an official City website and communicating directly with City staff."
The transition is part of the City's broader investment in modernizing digital services and improving the online customer experience. Over the past year, the City has redesigned its website, expanded online services and digital forms, enhanced accessibility, strengthened cybersecurity and prepared for the launch of the City's in-house police department on Aug. 3. Together, these initiatives make it easier for residents, businesses, and visitors to access City services and information online.
What residents should know
The City has carefully planned the transition to ensure uninterrupted access to online services.
Beginning July 28, all visitors to ketchumidaho.org will automatically be redirected to ketchumidaho.gov.
Residents are encouraged to update saved bookmarks and website shortcuts to the new address.
City employee email addresses will change only in the domain name. Individual email usernames will remain the same, using their first initial followed by their last name, with addresses changing from name@ketchumidaho.org to name@ketchumidaho.gov. Existing .org email addresses will continue to receive messages during the transition period, ensuring uninterrupted communication.
Online services, digital forms, and public information will remain available throughout the transition.
Residents will also begin seeing the new .gov address on City webpages, staff email signatures, printed materials, and public communications over the coming months as materials are updated through their normal replacement cycle.
Because .gov domains are available only to verified government organizations, the transition provides an additional level of security and authenticity for everyone interacting with the City online.
City staff will continue monitoring the website following the transition to quickly identify and resolve any issues. Anyone who experiences technical difficulties or has questions about the transition is encouraged to contact the City's Community Engagement team.
