Bike Safety Starts With You

Bike path

Spring is here and Ketchum’s bikes are rolling! Longer days, warmer weather, and scenic trails make now the perfect time to get outside—but safety comes first. The City of Ketchum’s bike safety campaign reminds everyone that following the rules protects you, other riders, pedestrians, and even our four-legged friends.

Both city streets and multi-use paths are patrolled by law enforcement, including three International Police Mountain Bike Association-certified officers. While citations and fines are issued for unsafe behavior, these rules exist to keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone.

On Multi-Use Paths:

  • Paths are shared spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, and pets
  • Obey speed limits: 15 mph on most paths; 10 mph on Warm Springs path
  • E-bikes without pedals are not allowed
  • Yield to slower traffic and signal before passing
  • Lights at night are required; helmets are encouraged

On Streets:

  • Ride as a vehicle, obey speed limits, and travel with traffic
  • Yield to pedestrians and follow all signals and signs
  • Lights at night are required; helmets are encouraged

Quick Safety Tips:

  • Check your brakes, tires, and lights before every ride
  • Stay alert and courteous, especially on busy paths

Remember, riding safely is fun for everyone
