Christina Potters Outdoor Ice Rink
Welcome!Idaho Classic 2015

The Christina Potters Outdoor Ice Rink is the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. It is a non-refrigerated human made rink that measures almost two acres.

The rink is open for about a two-month period each winter from around the December holidays through what we locals call "Presidents' Week" in about mid-February. Rink conditions and operating hours are entirely weather dependent; when it snows, we have to plow and when it gets too warm, the rink is too soft for skating. We make every effort to keep the rink open from dawn until dusk seven days a week. Our Recreation Center at Atkinson Park is open seven days a week from 10:00 to 5:00 when the rink is open, excluding the holidays of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents' Day.

The Christina Potters Outdoor Ice Rink at Atkinson Park is CLOSED FOR THE SEASON! Thanks, everyone, for a great skating season that enjoyed 52 days of skating for nearly 5,000 visitors. Please obey rink/field closure signs as posted.

Have FUN! Be SAFE! We appreciate your respect for this wonderful free recreation amenity...

We are planning another (21st annual!) season of skating! Stay tuned for updates!
General Information
Location: Atkinson Park, 900 Third Avenue North
Phone: 208-726-7820

Hours of operation: seven days per week, dawn until dusk, weather dependent. When it snows, please give us some time to plow the snow off the rink.

Construction and maintenance: Entirely weather dependent! The rink is constructed over a week-long period of cold, clear nights in December with the goal of opening the rink to the public for the holidays. Maintenance occurs as needed; the rink is maintained with a Zamboni, though it is sometimes necessary to spray more water with fire hoses to build up layers or add significant layers of ice. Snowfall requires plowing and snow blowing. Please avoid the rink when large equipment is operating. We are fortunate to live in the shadow of the great Bald Mountain - the sun leaves the rink around 3:00 pm which preserves the ice and prolongs the skating season. As the sun climbs higher into the sky in February, the rink deteriorates in the warm afternoon sun but we are usually able to keep the rink skate-able through Presidents' Week.

Skates, helmets, hockey sticks, pucks, goals, broom ball, and balance assists are all free for public use. We have about 100 pairs of hockey and figure skates. Helmets are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED and are REQUIRED for Parks & Recreation program participants (including After School Program and Park Penguins Hockey Club). Equipment donations are always welcome and cash donations are happily accepted.

PLEASE help us keep this free community facility family-friendly! Giving respect gets respect; please put away all equipment where you found it and treat all equipment and the facilities as if they were your own.
