The Ketchum/Sun Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant is a state-of-the-art facility, co-owned jointly by the City of Ketchum and the Sun Valley Water and Sewer District.  The plant employs six full-time licensed operators, including a Plant Supervisor and Laboratory Technician.  The treatment process consists of screening, pumping, grit removal, activated sludge treatment, tertiary filtration, and UV disinfection.  The residual bio solids produced by the treatment plant are thickened and then aerobically digested.  After aerobic digestion, the sludge is hauled by truck to the Ohio Gulch Landfill drying beds.

The Ketchum Wastewater Collection Trunk System is made up of over 30 miles of 8-inch through 24-inch pipe.  The Collection System is managed by two full-time licensed employees who provide ongoing oversight and maintenance through TV inspection and hydro-jetting on a regular basis.

If you have questions about the Wastewater Treatment Plant, please email Supervisor Mick Mummert or call 208.726.7825, ext. 110.

Wastewater Reuse
The Ketchum/Sun Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently permitted by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality to provide up to 3.1 million gallons per day of recycled water for the specific purpose of irrigation and snowmaking. The treatment plant currently produces Class "A" recycled water which is acceptable for irrigation in residential neighborhoods. Ketchum and Sun Valley are developing plans for the construction and delivery of recycled water in the near future.

Wastewater AquariumRainbow Trout obtained from the CSI Aquaculture Program in Twin Falls are observed flourishing in treated wastewater at the Ketchum/Sun Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant. The 120-gallon aquarium is a demonstration of the effectiveness of the wastewater treatment process, which includes aeration, filtration, and ultra-violet disinfection. Treated wastewater will ultimately be used for irrigation and sprinkling of lawns in Ketchum and Sun Valley in the near future.
